Congratulations to our 2022 Berkley Masonic Lodge #167 - William Andrew
Spitzig Scholarship winner, Ms. Kathleen “Katie” Tanous of Norview High
School. Katie was presented a check for $1,000 for her college expenses.
Katie is the daughter of Bill and Christi Tanous of Norfolk, Virginia. Her
father is a member of Ocean View Lodge #335 also in Norfolk and her
mother was a member of Job’s Daughters International Bethel #3 in Norfolk.
Katie has been a member of Bethel #3 since 2013 and was the Honor Queen
of her Bethel in 2017/18, and was also selected as Job’s Daughters
International, Junior Miss Virginia Job’s Daughter for that same period. She
has also been an active member at the State level as a member of the state
ritual team, camp counselor, a mentor at various Leadership Retreats, and a
founding member of the Job’s Leadership Committee. Katie has supported
her community by volunteering for the Norfolk Emergency Shelter Team
(NEST) where she helps package food and other necessities for people that
are homeless. She is also active in her church where she helped with the
Ocean View Church Summer Camps for the past 5 years. She is also
recognized as a leader within her church family for her willingness to lead
small groups of children in worship and with bible study. On top of that,
Katie is an outstanding student. She is a member of the Leadership Center
for Science and Engineering at Norview High and was the President of that
group this past year. She has been recognized as an Advanced Programs
(AP) Scholar. She was selected as the “Most Outstanding Student” in Physics
in 2019 and Chemistry in 2020. She was on the “A” Honor roll from 2018 to
2022 and played both Varsity Soccer and Varsity Field Hockey as well.
Additionally, she has been selected to the National Honor Society and the
Spanish National Honor Society! Finally, she was ranked #2 out of 370
students while at Norview High! Katie will attend Eastern Mennonite
University where she will pursue a degree in Mathematics with a goal of
being a teacher in that field.
Congratulations to Katie and we also congratulate Katie’s parents Bill and
Christina for raising such a wonderful, intelligent, and caring young woman.
We are extremely proud to have Katie as our 2022 scholarship award
winner!
